Biography
My name is Xavier Jenkins, and I am a senior at Wakefield School in The Plains, Virginia. I will be attending Thiel College, studying Business Administration and Criminal Justice. I will also be playing basketball. I decided to choose the topic of African Americans in the Military because of the military involvement in my family, from my Uncle being in the Vietnam War to my Mother being a part of The War on Terror. I loved researching and learning about African American Military leaders I’d never heard of before. This information opened my mind to many other hardships and problems that we went through not only in the motherland but also overseas in the ranks. Also, I loved how much African American leaders like Harriet Tubman, Micheal Xavier Garrett, Colonel Albert Ashby, Colonel Leroy Brown, and many others have had in our Military. All these leaders have in common is perseverance and determination, which everyone needs, no matter who you are. They embrace and embody their military core values. I hope this research can inform and teach the community what it takes to be an African American in the Military.
